Talking of Live event production Lagos
On April 25, 2026, Royalty Global Sound (RGS) provided full professional audio production for the Golden Penny Food and Soup Festival at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos Island. The open-air festival drew over 1,000 guests and featured live performances by Olamide Baddo, KieKie, Segun Johnson, and Shokay, alongside cooking contests, family games, and brand activations by Golden Penny. RGS deployed a dual Behringer Wing console setup, JBL and FDB line arrays, and 31 Shure microphones across a 4-day production build, delivering complete sound coverage with zero dead zones from start to finish. This post documents how the RGS team planned, prepared, and executed one of Lagos’s most high-profile food festival productions of 2026.
The Brief: What Idea House Marketing Needed
When Idea House Marketing briefed Royalty Global Sound on the Golden Penny Food and Soup Festival, the requirement was clear: full sound coverage across the entire open-air footprint of Tafawa Balewa Square, one of Lagos’s largest and most historically significant event venues with no dead zones, no interruptions, and audio quality befitting a national brand activation.
Rather than working from a rigid technical rider, Idea House communicated their goals and trusted RGS to design the appropriate audio system. RGS also collected riders from all performing artists and the live band to ensure every performance input, monitor mix, and wireless channel was accounted for before the first cable was run.
4-Day Production Setup: Tuesday 21 – Friday 24 April 2026
Professional live audio at scale does not begin on event day. RGS arrived on site on Tuesday, April 21- four full days before the festival to begin a structured setup, rigging, and systems integration process.
Day 1 – 2 (Tue -Wed): Structural rigging and PA deployment
Line array truss and scaffolding were erected. FDB and JBL line arrays were flown for main coverage.

JBL SR828S 18″ subwoofers were ground-stacked and positioned for maximum low-frequency impact without muddying the midrange.
Overnight rain on Day 2 required protective measures and schedule adjustment but the team adapted, protected the equipment, and kept the build on track without any delay to the overall timeline.

Day 3 (Thu): Systems integration and cabling
Both Behringer Wing digital mixing consoles were configured, one for FOH (front-of-house) and one specifically for the stage because of the live band performances. Stage boxes were connected.

All 31 microphones (8× Shure ULXD digital handhelds, 15× Shure SM58S, 8× Shure SM57) were cabled and assigned.
by night it rained and we later found out about a burnt power cable provided from generator plant, it was replaced, and fully retested before proceeding. We further verified Amplifier racks across all speaker zones.
Day 4 (Fri): Full soundcheck
The Segun Johnson live band completed full soundcheck with the complete backline – DW Collector’s drum kit, DW Queen Crest snare, Mark-bass and Marshall guitar combos, and dual Yamaha Montage keyboards. All wireless frequencies were scanned and locked. Delay speaker positions were calibrated for consistent rear-of-crowd coverage. Monitor mixes were dialed in for each artist. Then we eventually had a last-minute artist rider changes and we were able to absorb it into the setup without disruption to the overall soundcheck schedule.

Event Program:
What RGS Was Powering
The Golden Penny Food and Soup Festival was a full-day brand activation event covering multiple simultaneous programmed elements across the TBS open-air space:
– Live performances by Olamide Baddo and Shokay
– Live band set by Segun Johnson and band
– MC hosting by KieKie and MC Password
– Golden Penny Semovita food and soup cooking contest
– Family games and treasure hunt activations
– Cash prize segments
RGS audio coverage was designed to serve every zone simultaneously from the stage, audience areas, and activation corners ensuring consistent intelligibility and impact regardless of where guests were positioned within the venue.
The RGS Team on Ground
– 4 senior audio engineers
– 2 assistant engineers
– 14 production crew members
– Total: 20 personnel deployed
A 20-person team across a 4-day build is what professional, large-scale live event audio delivery looks like. Each crew member had a defined role, and coordination from load-in through event-day wrap was managed without a single incident.
Challenges We Faced and How We Solved Them
This section exists because any production company that tells you everything went perfectly isn’t telling you the whole story. Real professionalism is measured not by the absence of problems, but by how fast and cleanly they are resolved.
Challenge 1: Overnight rain during setup
Rain arrived on the second night of the build. The team responded immediately and all equipment were protected, vulnerable connections were secured, and morning work resumed without any impact on the build schedule.
Challenge 2: Generator power cable burn
A power cable connected to the client-provided generator plant burnt out mid-setup. It was easily identified, replaced, and all connected systems were retested before work continued. Zero gear was damaged.
Challenge 3: Last-minute artist rider changes
Additional technical requirements arrived close to soundcheck. Input lists were updated, new channel assignments were made, and monitor mixes were reconfigured, all absorbed within the existing soundcheck window.
After the event: heavy rain during pack-down
When rain arrived during teardown, the crew executed a fast, organized breakdown- prioritizing sensitive electronics first and ensured safety of all equipment.
Result: Zero Dead Zones, Zero Downtime
Over 1,000 guests experienced the Golden Penny Food and Soup Festival on April 25, 2026, with flawless audio from first announcement to final performance. The dual-console setup allowed simultaneous independent control of FOH and monitors. Line array coverage reached every corner of the open-air TBS footprint and very challenge was resolved before it could become a problem.
Royalty Global Sound was trusted to represent the Golden Penny brand through sound, and delivered exactly that. Thank you to idea house marketing for the amazing opportunity.
